Crossover is a place where you can go to have fun and spend time with Jesus as well.

My name is Isabella and I’m from North Fort Myers, Florida. In my free time, I enjoy sketching, drawing, and playing volleyball to unwind and hang out with my friends. When I’m older, I’d like to be an entrepreneur and also have the opportunity to design and build my own house.

A broad vision and the skills to match

At just 13 years old, Isabella already demonstrates the qualities of a well-rounded leader. Not only is she ambitious in her professional pursuits, but she has a keen eye for identifying critical issues—as well as the heart of a servant.

Isabella is quick to identify areas for improvement in her local community, singling out the need for affordable housing. As she would also like to design and build her own house, this is a key concern for her. And Crossover is helping her achieve it.

Isabella’s insights and ambitious leadership qualities are being refined and empowered through the program. In her own words, Crossover is “a safe place, a place where you can go to have fun and spend time with Jesus as well.” But beyond this, Crossover is also providing her with “life skills” such as financial literacy, which will prove particularly useful in her entrepreneurial ventures.

Even more importantly, Isabella has a strong faith which provides her with the courage to follow through on her convictions. As she says, being “willing to be used by God” is sure to help her make an impact.

Whether taking part in the holiday dinners, fundraisers, or ongoing events, Crossover has provided Isabella with a place to have fun and serve the community. She describes it as “an outreach for teenagers to help them find and love Jesus,” and encourages others to join.

While she enjoys spending time with everyone at Crossover, Isabella has particular respect for Coach Matt, who she characterizes as “funny, gives good advice, is good at listening, and has a strong love for God.” With such role models guiding her, it’s only a matter of time until Isabella’s lasting impact becomes clear in her community.

Crossover is a place where you can go to have fun and spend time with Jesus as well.

I’m Samuel and I’m originally from Louisville, Kentucky but I moved to Florida a few years ago. My greatest ambition is to break into the music industry and I think that going to college to study music would help me achieve that. In my free time, I enjoy playing games and watching anime shows.

A people-oriented leader with a passion for music

With his sights firmly set on the future, Samuel understands the value of hard work, perseverance—and planning for multiple eventualities. He demonstrates this through his passion for music, which he hopes will lead to a career as a recording artist. But Samuel is not one to put all of his eggs in one basket. Like many leaders, he has a backup plan to become either a music teacher or a therapist.

As an individual and in his work with Crossover, Samuel takes a people-oriented approach to leadership. Looking around his neighborhood, he sees areas for improvement and has a vision of his community as a place where people can feel safe and thrive. He believes that by talking to individuals and listening to why they feel unsafe, he can make an impact and take steps to protect them. It’s perhaps unsurprising then that he defines leadership as, “making good choices while also thinking of others.”

For Samuel, Crossover is somewhere he can feel safe himself, allowing him to unwind and grow in his faith. He describes it as, “a place you can come to to chill after a hard day but also where you can come if you really want to hear the Word.” Beyond enjoying the company at Crossover, Samuel firmly believes that the group is helping him to achieve his ambitions. In particular, he singles out the Influential Leaders Program, which teaches key social skills as well as how to step up as a leader when necessary.

Samuel undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him. Even at 16 years old, his vision, faith, and compassion-based mindset will undoubtedly set him apart from those around him. Until then, through a mixture of Bible-based learning, community support, and Miss Jodi’s excellent cooking, he’s gaining the skills needed to create a lasting impact.
